Celebrations don’t have to be reserved for momentous occasions. In fact, celebrating the little things can pay big dividends in any relationship. So why not celebrate with your sweetheart today? Here’s how to start a new tradition:
- Pay close attention to what’s going on in your sweetheart’s week. Work activities, exercise or friendships could be special areas of focus.
- Celebrate when a project is completed or a task is finished. This could be a work project, a first yoga class or even cleaning off the patio.
- Surprise your sweetheart with a celebratory card, bottle of wine, box of candy or flowers.
- Spend some time together celebrating the accomplishment. No matter how small it may be.
True love encompasses under the sun. From beginning to end. And A through Z. So why not celebrate your ultimate affection with an ABC Album? Here’s how:
* Purchase a photo album or scrapbook
* Devote each page to a different letter of the alphabet
* Pick a word that corresponds with each letter (“adorable” for “A”, “beautiful” for “B”, “Couples Trip ‘08” for “C”, etc.)
* Arrange pictures, letters, ticket stubs and/or anecdotes about your sweetheart, your relationship, or your memories together that correspond with each word
* Present the finished album to your sweetheart. Or complete it up to a certain letter, and ask for their help to finish it.
Romance doesn’t have to be on a Grand Stage. In fact, it’s often more powerful when you can create magic in everyday events. Here’s an easy idea to inspire you:
• Find a household item your sweetheart will come across soon
• Attach a romantic, playful note to the item
• Try to have the note play off of the item (for example, “I can’t wait to get my hands on you” on an oven mitt or “you know just how to turn me on” on a set of keys)
Everybody loves to curl up with a good book. And if your sweetheart is an especially avid reader, they’ll appreciate this gesture even more. Read up:
• Find out what new book your sweetheart wants to read
• Purchase the book for your sweetheart
• Write a romantic note in the front of the book. Be sure to date it.
• For extra effect, include a bookmark that speaks to your sweetheart – or your love
There is a line in a John Mayer song that resonates with me and guides me in my efforts to embrace love and romance both personally and professionally. “I believe that my life’s going to see the love I give returned to me”.
I am not perfect nor am I an expert in love and romance however, since joining Couples Resorts in 2001, my passion for creating emotional connections between our guests, staff and our company cannot be denied. One of the most vivid testaments to this passion involves reading guests’ love letters over the phone and in person. Hundreds of Couples Resorts’ guests (past, present and future) regularly to submit letters along with dates and times to call their significant others. Typically, my call catches the person on the other end of the line completely off guard. Sometimes they are suspicious and ask something like “OK Joe, is that you?”, but mostly they are shocked and silenced as they listen to the love I am relaying from their significant other. The calls usually and end in tears of joy - often on both ends of the phone. I have called a Board Room to read a love letter over a speakerphone and a Nurses Station at a hospital, Rehearsal Dinners, and the Groom just before walking down the aisle. Newlyweds en route to the airport for their flight to Jamaica and to our resort rooms, including one to a wake up the Groom-to-be. I get such joy from these calls. My life is already seeing the love I give returned to me.
